To start our new topic of ‘Great Britain’ off in style, class 4 went for a walk around Scole. The children were set the extremely difficult task of mapping their route and adding any symbols, roads, buildings etc that they wished as they went. We stopped off in Scole Pocket Park and found the resident ‘dragon’ before continuing in a circular route back to school.

The maps the children produced were very good. Ellen’s was so good it won her a Special Mention certificate in assembly.

The following lesson we looked more closely at our maps and then compared them with Ordnance survey maps of the area. It was amazing how many similarities we could find.

We will be using Ordnance Survey maps later in the term to further develop our understanding of symbols and grid references.
