The School Day

A member of staff, usually the headteacher or a member of the senior leadership team, is on the gate to greet the pupils as they arrive from 8.45am. A pupil will ring the bell and children will go their classrooms at 8.55am. This is an opportunity for water bottles to be filled, as children have access to water throughout the school day. Literacy and numeracy are predominantly taught in the mornings, either side of break time which is 10.30am to 10.45am.

Lunchtime is 12pm to 1pm. Pupils have the choice of either a packed lunch or a school dinner, which is cooked by Aspens at Diss Junior Primary Academy. For packed lunches we do not allow fizzy drinks or sweets. Chocolate covered biscuits are allowed, though we do encourage as healthy a packed lunch as possible.

Afternoon sessions begin at 1pm and last until collective worship at either 2.50pm or 3pm. These are led by different members of staff, members of the church and other visitors on each day.   Each class share work they have done during the week, we celebrate achievements outside of school, birthdays and ‘special mention’ certificates, which are awards chosen by staff for pupils who have done outstanding work.

The end of the school day is at 3.15pm. There are always two members of staff in the playground, where parents meet their children before going home.

If your child is absent for any reason then please contact the office at your earliest convenience to let us know. We will follow up any absences on the first day and we need to know the reason for the absence so we can amend our registers.
