Hilltop fun!

September 14th, 2017

Hello everyone!!

Despite the rain, hailstones and wind everyone is having a great time.

Pasta Bol and ice-cream for dinner was a big success with some children even having salad.

Yesterday we either climbed and abseiled or mountain biked and went on the Big zipper. Today are team tasks and a swap round of yesterday’s activities.

Evryone was alseep by 10.30 with no problems and the first voices heard were about 6.30. Some are still asleep and its 7.20!!

Wi – fi is a bit wobbly here but I’ll try to add some photos and another update later if I can.

March 23rd, 2017

Today we began to think about Easter. Our unit of work is based around why Good Friday is called ‘Good’. We began by thinking about what we already know about Easter and then moved onto what we would like to know. There were some very interesting questions about whether Jesus knew he was going to die, where does the word ‘Easter’ come from and how exactly do Christians celebrate Easter. We will be sharing what we discover in the Easter service on Thursday 30th, 9.30 am at the church so please come along to hear us.

Is it alive?

March 14th, 2017

This week we began our science topic of ‘Living things’. We began by sorting pictures of various objects and deciding whether we thought they were alive or not. The discussions were brilliant, with lots of explanations and great scientific vocabulary. Some objects we thought were obvious such as a worm but others such as antlers and seeds produced some very animated discussions! We then learnt about MRS GREN or MRS NERG ( please ask us if you want to know more) before going back to our pictures and making a final decision.

If today’s lesson is anything to go by, this is going to be a great topic! Well done class 4.

Proud of my ‘selfie’.

March 8th, 2017

At Scole, we really like to celebrate our successes and hard work. In class 4 we do this by taking a ‘selfie’ and then displaying it in our classroom. Any member of the class can choose when to take a ‘selfie’ of themselves and a piece of work they are particularly proud of. It may be something they have found really tricky but have persevered with and been really pleased with the results. It may be their best handwriting, a beautiful piece of artwork, a particularly good balance in P.E, a page of maths that they worked really hard on…. the list is endless. We are adding to our display all the time, so feel free to pop in and see what your child is proud of!

Book in a box

February 23rd, 2017

Yes, it has returned!  Year 6 have completed their ‘Book in a box’ homework and brought them in to share with us. Each child has given a presentation about their book and the objects/work they have put into their box. The amount of work which has gone into these is quite astounding! If you would like to look at the boxes, they are in the library but please be careful with them. ( Class 3, we will be sharing them all with you when year 5 have completed theirs!)

Can you guess which books these three children chose?

February 14th, 2017

Science this week has been about developing our understanding of drugs including alcohol and smoking. We began by sharing what we already knew and it became clear that there were many misconceptions throughout the class. The children took this subject very seriously and asked excellent questions such as ‘If we now know that smoking can kill you , why do people still do it?’ This prompted a lot of discussion. The children were then given the task of designing a poster about alcohol, smoking or drugs ( including medicine) to show their understanding.  Here are just two of the excellent pieces of work which were created.

An exciting week

Bhangra dancing

One of the highlights of this week was Bhangra dancing. This is because we were able to dress up in costume, wear a bindi and learn a fast- paced routine. Everyone had great fun and lots of people said that if they had the opportunity, they would do it again.

Maths Cafe

On Tuesday, class 4 had their maths cafe which everyone enjoyed. To start with, we did some calculations similar to the ones we do in Big Maths, which consisted of long division, short division, long multiplication, addition and subtraction. Then there was a choice of different problems to solve: The Dice Train; Rectangle Tangle; Sealed Solutions and a maths game similar to Connect 4. Lots of parents came and we all worked really hard.

SPaG Spotter

February 5th, 2017

This week in SPaG lessons we have been learning about hyphens. We have spotted any hyphens when reading independently and  have added them to our ‘SPaG Spotter’ display.

We’ve found more than we anticipated!

What’s in your food?

January 28th, 2017

In science we have been learning about nutrition and digestion. This week we have focussed on the nutrients in our food: carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fats etc.

The children worked really hard and then used their understanding to create a food pyramid, putting in the food that they eat into each section so that they could see how balanced their diet was.

Mayan masks

January 26th, 2017

In art, the children have been learning about Mayan masks. They have designed some of their own which they will eventually make into an actual mask. Many of the children were so proud of their achievements that they took a ‘selfie’ to put on our wall.
